even with an aftermarket stereo setup, you have to controll the ipod through the stereo...you can't have it both ways

i haven't driven my car for almost a month now and when i looked at the ipod, the battery was almost drained. so i guess it doesn't charge when the car is off but charges only when ur driving.

This is weird? I have the kit in, but removed my iPod. Now I can't figure out how to use the regular radio w/o the ipod in? When I hit radio, it keeps trying to go to satellite? Any ideas?

I just went back to my car - put the ipod in, and I was able to get FM/AM no problem. remove the ipod, and then the radio just tries to keep searching for it and I get the "no ipod" message - and can't get to FM stations.

What are my other options for getting an iPod connected in my car? I'd like to be able to charge it, display text on the stock HU, be able to control it from the steering wheel as well as the iPod directly.

Is there anything out there that meets these requirements? What about the kit from mp3yourcar.com?

USA Spec PA11-NIS ... search on it, I just ordered one off eBay for $119 shipped. It does everything the factory unit does plus gives you the option of having direct iPod control. The downside is that you must connect it to the back of the stock radio instead of using the SAT pre-wire in the trunk.

^^ I didn't think the USA spec gave you the text display of folders and song titles like the factory unit one does?

The USA Spec has a "direct" mode and "playlist" mode where the playlist mode, from what I have seen, will give you the same functionality as the factory unit (but not allow direct iPod input). The direct mode provides direct ipod input while still giving minor functionality through the radio and steering wheel controls.

non prewired setup question

Has any one try this setup on non pr wired car? Will the harness go behind the HU or will it still go in the trunk. It is lot of work to put in behind the HU. I want to add this to my car but want to see what I am up against before I do it. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Prewired cars apparently have a plug in the trunk that you can just plug this thing into but I don’t have this plug in the trunk so I think I will have to install this behind the HU which is lot more work than in the trunk

If we are prewired, can we still wire in behind the head unit?

If the plug behind the head unit is the same, i'd imagine so as the trunk cable is just an extension, afaik. Just be sure you have a good grounding point up there.
