Or, if you only want the ring & pinion (no vlsd) it would be even lighter to ship - but I'd have to get price (or even see if they will sell gears only).
Let me know...

I don't think the actual install of the ring/pinion is that difficult. It's the setup of the ring/pinion that's a pain (from what I read). But someone willing to do a VB install could probably set up a rear end also. Just questioning the cost benefit. Might be cheaper to spend more having one already setup inside the entire diff case sent vs spending the time/cost of setting one up or having someone set it up.

People have installed their owe gear set on this car though - so it can be done (I wouldn't - but then again, I wouldn't attempt VB either).

Shims for the preload or backlash? I think if he needs shims, he might need a set of calipers, bearing pullers, dial indicators blah blah.
I'm getting everyone just installs it and calls it good enough. Might be okay since I guess a Japanese diff might be built a little more consistent than a domestic.

I was simply giving him a lightweight shipping option to save money... why is it a multi-post issue beyond that?... and why are you interested anyway? Do you want to buy FD or Diff?

I won't even help you get this part Jeff - so there's no point in continuing with your nonsense...
Tollbooth, if you are interested in the gears, diff or entire pumpkin, PM me.

shims are needed to adjust backlash... but you wont be installing yourself so why do you care? In fact, you wouldn't buy just the ring & pinion, you'd only buy the entire pumpkin - so again, why do you care?... Even further, I am nearly positive you aren't even seriously considering this (as it pertains to the conversation I was having with Toll and helping him get a 3.5 FD) so again, why do you care????

I want to know if anyone really took setting up the rear end properly all that serious since from my limited research, your description seems to skip a bunch of steps that others don't. Perhaps the Nissan diffs don't need it. Perhaps they should but people ignore it. I dunno, that's why I'm asking
Even in this thread, you just mentioned the crush washer then add the shims later. Is it both? Is there more? You had yours done by TS. What did they do? Is it on a receipt or anything?
