Just asking because that's where I've come out in the overall discussion. Since I intend to modiffy the system anyway, I may as well pay less for the overall unit since basically all that will still be stock in the end is the head unit (which I'm going to amp anyway).

The biggest thing bugging me now is how quiet XM is compared to the other sources so when I switch back I get blasted =/
Wonder if there's an adjustment somewhere (my other aftermarket systems all have level matching per source in the headunit).

FWIT, after 3 weeks with my new 2007 Sedan, I have to give the SoW system a big thumbs up. Personally, I'm impressed with the clarity achieved at all volumes. I don't have any complaints with the bass and think it sounds best with the treble and bass left at their default 0 settings.
However, I do agree with the complaints that the XM levels are too low. I don't understand the replies that "they're all like that". If all XM sources have relatively low output levels why doesn't the head-unit compensate to equalize the XM to the other sources?
The Sirius unit that I use in my Odyssey has a line-level output adjustment that allows me to set it so the volume levels are matched to the CD and FM.

Source level matching
The problem is source level matching.
It's not as trivial as you think. Consider this example.
FM station #1 uses lots of compression so they can broadcast the loudest sounding music. FM station #2 uses a more reasonable level of compression.
If you source level match so FM station #1 matches well with the CD source, then FM #2 will sound way to low. If you match with station #2, station #1 will blast you every time you go from CD to station #1.
XM is not as bad, but you still have to source level match.
The headunit in the new G35 is a very high quality unit. But, it is not our design and the supplier was responsible for making sure all sources were level matched.

P.S. I will make a note to chat with the HU supplier about this

Feng, is there a way to have Sirius instead of XM on the navigation equipped models? originally I ordered the car in October with Sirius, but now I'm hearing that for navigation systems you can only get XM, is that a head unit limitation, or is that just a configuration issue, software issue? The cars due Feb 7th, and I'm quite bothered that as it seems, I can't get Sirius. Understandably I won't have the XM traffic feature, but I can do without that.
there is no possible way you have sirius and nav combined and the dealer you ordered from knows that because it is in bold print. you should have a VIN # by now and also someone from the dealer shouldve told you it has XM only and no option to swap in Sirius unless it is aftermarket and not into the factory radio system.

Now back to my question, Feng, Do you know if this is possible, is there a hardware limitation with the radio it's self, or is this just an ordering preference that Infiniti has chosen.
There are two different headunits for the G35

BTW, Our job was only to verify that both headunits were of good audio quality (personally, I think they are among the best OEM headunits I've ever seen ... Thomas Crahan did a good for you guys).
