Hmmm alright thanks!

Even though there's only 2 pairs of preamp RCA outlets?

Yep. Run an amp remote gain **** up to the front if you want independent sub volume control and use the amp's LPF for fine tuning.

Wrathernaut,

Thank you for creating this wonderful, informative and well updated thread.

My 03.5 (Bose + Nav) HVAC and radio controls just went out yesterday. I've gone ahead based on your research and purchased the following items:

-Metra 40NI10
-Metra Axxess ASWC
-PAC ROEM-NIS2
-Scosche DD Trim
-JDM 03-04 DD Trim

When I purchased the JDM Trim from Timm @ grubbs he said that I would definitely need an additional $40 bracket to make sure the new head unit stays in place. I read through all 26 pages of this thread with no reference to said "bracket". I bought it anyway for $40 which Timm promised would be refundable in new condition.

Do I need this bracket? I was hoping on using whatever hardware was used OEM or provided with the new DD headunit that I purchased. Also, I wanted to modify that screw mounting location for the flush look. Any advice or wisdom from any of you would be greatly appreciated!

Once again, great thread Wrathernaut. Thank you.

SD

I haven't had anybody report needing any bracket to keep the headunit in place in any year car, and I'd guess that somebody would have mentioned something in this thread if they did.

Doing the flush mount is usually done best by using some thin, rigid cardboard (like file folders) and putting it against the side of the headunit to make a template of the mounting holes. Then put the headunit in with the trim and such on its side exactly how you want it mounted, line up the template on the outside of the bracket and poke your marker through the hole in your template so you know exactly where to drill to mount the radio in that position.

Just be sure to use a good center punch before you drill so that the holes actually get drilled in the right spot.

Hmmm on the preamp RCA outputs.. do you know the difference between the mono-subwoofer output and the one without the mono?

A mono subwoofer output would combine the two audio signals going into it, probably a good thing if the amp for your subwoofer only has a single channel input.

Wiring queston - PAC ROEM-NIS2

connecting the PAC ROEM-NIS2 to my pioneer head unit wiring harness. Matching up the colored wires to each other, but I have a couple questions about a few of the wires:
1) the pioneer harness has a black ground wire with a metal ring connector on the end for attaching to a ground point on the chassis. should i remove this and connect this wire to the black wire on the PAC ROEM-NIS2?
2) the pioneer harness has a blue wire with a white stripe that has a plastic connector on the end. The wire has a label attached: "system remote control". pioneer instructions say this connects to the "system control terminal of the power amp or auto antenna." Should i cut off this connector and connect this wire to the blue/white stripe wire on the PAC ROEM-NIS2?
3)pioneer harness has an orange/white stripe wire labeled "ILL". Does not seem to be a corresponding wire on the PAC ROEM, but there is an orange wire. pioneer instructions say this wire goes to the "lighting switch terminal." does this just connect to the orange PAC ROEM wire?
4) pioneer harness has a red wire labeled "ACC", instructions say this connect to the electric terminal controlled by ignition. Can this be connected to the red wire on the PAC ROEM?
5) pioneer harness has a yellow wire labeled "Battery", instructions say this connects to the "terminal always supplied with power." Can this be connected to the yellow wire on the PAC ROEM?

sorry for the long post. my first radio install, so want to do it right. thanks for the help!

1) Connect them together and ground them both to the chassis.
2) The blue/white and blue (one's antenna amp, the other is the bose amp turn-on signal, I forget which is which) from the ROEM connect to the "system control".
3) Yep, illumination = lighting switch.
4) Yes.
5) Yes.

thanks! appreciate it.

you said: 2) The blue/white and blue (one's antenna amp, the other is the bose amp turn-on signal, I forget which is which) from the ROEM connect to the "system control".

just to clarify: the blue wire with the white stripe and connector from the pioneer wire harness connects to BOTH the blue wire and the blue wire with the white stripe on the ROEM? so, i need to remove the connector? pic of the wire from the pioneer harness is attached.

Thanks.

Yeah, remove the connector so you can tie both the wires together.

Wrathernaut,

I'll be sure to send the bracket back. I could use the exta $$$

Thanks for the template and center punch tips, I will be sure to note that.

Ok, so tell me if i am dumb, but I'm trying to follow the link for bythebay's video walkthrough of the teardown of the dash and installation of an aftermarket stereo but i keep getting looped in circles after clicking on that link. I never actually see a video or a walkthrough. Any ideas? Thanks.
