Headers and exhaust would not cause a TQ jump as shown
So the driveshaft was only installed on the second dyno run? If so then retuning with breather mods and driveshaft installed just for that run would render it inconclusive. Originally Posted by Dsskyline

I probably won't be able to do a before and after dyno since I've got too much other crap being done at the same time.

Yes and no both dynos were done today. The DS was installed last Friday the 1st dyno was before anything was done tuning wise just pulls. So yes the 2nd dyno is not a actual representation of the DS gains because it is after tuning.
The car never showed that much tq when it was tuned on a dynojet for my headers and exhaust 2wks ago.

Different exhaust and the redesigned longtubes. Run 48 is from Jan run 53 is after a few runs today before bbeing retuned.Originally Posted by gabe3d

The exhaust showed no gains the headers gave me my low end back with a little lost up top on a dynojet so I shouldnt of gained anything up top. The only way to get a true after is to go back to RT tuning, but my tq did not rise like that on RT's dyno before the DS 2wks ago.
I know that it feels different since installing the DS.
That is why I posted the mustang dyno it also shows a big jump in lowend-midrange tq from a alum DS.

@Dsskyline
I'm sure it was mentioned somewhere but I really don't feel like sifting through 25 pages to find the answer. What modifications, if any, have to be made to fit the Z1 DS? My car is a 5AT as well. I'm looking into doing this mod in the very near future. When I changed my gears and saw how heavy the driveshaft was, I knew it would be a great mod to have a lighter one. Glad I found this thread!

None just drop your exhaust if needed remove the 4 bolts connecting the DS to the diff drop down the DS and slide it out from the trans.Originally Posted by Footballmania32

Make sure when you order one from Z1 you verify it is for a 5at the 6mt version is slightly longer.

I think it will cost you over $200 make sure you have a copy of your tune if you can. Let me know if you get a appt.Originally Posted by t6378tp

I know that all dynos are different, but here is my dyno from RT tuning from 2wks ago with the new headers and exhaust vs old long longtubes and gemini exhaust. run 25 is old, 58 is new.
The only difference from changing the exhaust and headers is the lowend

The car reads 10 hp/tq higher on Hills dyno compared to RT's
Here is the Hill's dyno after a touch-up to my tune (run 25) from RT. The car put down 282 before he did anything on RT's tune. The blue line is before cams, new exhaust and longtubes.

Notice the difference in low end between the dynos after adding the DS before tuning.

The car put down 288 on this run before tuning which is almost the same as before.
Sorry for all the dyno sheets I know that there are doubters, but there are gains switching from a 2 pc to 1 pc DS on our car.

Well, I would say the gains are due to the decreased weight; a lighter 2 pc driveshaft would be just as good as a lighter one piece (assuming weights are the same), I think.Originally Posted by Dsskyline

Either way, I agree that there are gains, and I think it is worth it.

Right the DS is just reducing you drivetrain loss like light weight wheels, flywheel. Jump on a dyno or go to the track with heavy wheels you numbers will be different.Originally Posted by caelric

I've talked to some DS shops and they said most gains comes from getting rid of that center joint.
A 1pc is a direct connection from your trans to diff without energy being absorbed by that center joint. 350z come with 1pc CF DS stock like the GTR.
The engine now doesn't have to work as hard to get the power that is already there to the wheels.
Run a mile in heavy boots then run the same mile in light weight running shoes you will be faster because you are not working as hard due to the reduced weight and added comfort.
nonetheless I'm happy with this mod as others are

Anyways, I'm pleased with the mod.
FYI that TT is my buddies car. I do have the CF drive shaft, but im 25+psi Supercharged. lolOriginally Posted by caelric

I have had some many things changed on my car its hard to tell but I can say that I made around 550rwhp on 3 psi less with the CF drivershaft and longtube headers.
Final final dyno is TBD this week or weekend.
top dyno with oem shaft was 557/455ish, it made over 6 with meth. so we shall see what it does.....
