AT vs MT rant...
Why do most people on this board always hate on AT's?...
I agree if you want a "Sports Car" for spirited driving you are going to get a better experience out of a manual vs a traditional Auto transmission. They both have their pros and cons. But at the same time an Auto isn't a piece of garbage that should be ridiculed.
My G is an auto. I still love driving it every time I get in it. I do lots of motorsports with it. I've even beaten a 6mt in a drag race (i'm sure this will start up a bunch of 6mt owners :P). So why is an auto so bad then?

I have an auto and I love it... is it faster then a manual? well .. depends... right now.. with the mods I have.. i'm a bit ahead of the stock MT... Can i peacefully get my bjs on the road? YES..
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE AUTO... especially if you have some mods, sprintbooster + tiptronic ... you have yourself a great responsive car that is convenient...

And I don't mean to stir up a hornets nest. I'm just expressing my opinion. It seems a lot of threads that don't even start with transmissions being part of the topic end up a pointless argument of MT vs AT not to mention the topics that do have anything to do with a transmission.
Like I said there are pros and cons to each. But to say "It is garbage and drive it off a cliff then get yourself a MT" proves my point that people on here are just bashing AT's for no good reason.

Reasons MT is better:
If all you want to do is point at the car and say "go", then you don't want a manual.
Fuel economy: going with a manual transmission is probably going to be your best bet if you know how to drive it.
Maintenance/Repair costs:
Even though the automotive world has come extremely far with refining automatic transmissions, most automatic transmissions still need to be serviced far more often than manual transmissions (some auto manufacturers state that their manual transmissions never have to be serviced with fluid changes, etc. )
The acceleration offered from a vehicle when equipped with a manual transmission is usually superior for a number of reasons; most predominantly due to gear ratios and the availability for more precise shifting. To explain, if you own a car that receives 200 horsepower @ 7,000 RPM, but your automatic transmission will up-shift under full throttle at only 6,000 RPM, you probably will never feel the full amount of power that your engine was made to offer. So, your engine may be stamped with a 200 horsepower rating, but because your car is equipped with an automatic that up-shifts too soon, you may be missing up to 20% of available power. On the other side, with most manual transmissions, you can usually take the engine revs to redline (or past). This enables you to get the most power possible to the front, rear, or all 4 wheels under full throttle take-offs.
Friends/loved ones will be less likely to borrow your car, because they're not able to operate it, which brings further incidental savings.
While most cars do not have this large of a 0-60 MPH gap between auto and manual transmissions, 99 percent of the time you will receive noticeably better performance from a manual gearbox.
Automatic transmission can't anticipate what you're going to do next. Manual transmission you have control over what your car is doing.
A manual transmission permits you to control torque independently of acceleration, which is an essential ingredient to driving control.
THE FUN
Other MT vs AT arguments summary lol. But yea.. MT will always be a better choice when buying a SPORTS car. If your modding and trying to feel power then its obvious.

I prefer the mt, but there are some days when im stuck in traffic where i really really want an AT, especially know that the AT can be built up to be a pretty good performer. I do agree that people shouldnt be hating on them all the time.
Oh yeah and how many times has this been discussed? Im kind of ashamed I even replied now...

And I agree with the mod thing. An auto with very few mods can take a 6MT. So there isn't a world of difference.

Thanks for the info Princess_Jen. I know you have posted all that info before. But I do appreciate the fact that you actually give facts and see both sides unlike most people.
