Wait....you mean you haven't checked your oil yet on your new VQ with 2400 miles? I'd be checking it every 1000 or so myself if it were me to make sure I didn't get another bad VQ.
Is the Dealer keeping tabs on it or something? Sealed dip stick and plug by Dealer for monitoring b/c it's new or something?

Yeah...haven't heard from Hex lately. Last update was his Dealer still stalling his replacement.
What's up Hector???? What BS they feeding you now bro???

Ya, I checked it at 300 miles, 500 miles, 1000 miles and I think 1300 miles but it was parked on a slight hill in my driveway so Im not sure how accurate it is. The dealer couldnt care any less. Theyre not checking up on me at all. They didnt seal anything off, everything is as it normally would be. Im going to check it right now and Ill post again later with an update on my oil level.

Hopefully Hector will be getting a new engine, he needs one with his consumption. Whats your consumption like 06CPV?

Oh...ok, good. Glad you've been checking.
Mine's doing alot better. Just past the 1000mi mark on my last oil change and I'm only down about 1/8th quart.
It's gotten better from last service interval and still going with what the Dealer's using (Castrol 5-30).
When I hit the 15K (next service) mark, might go with synth and see what happens with that, including my gear box and differential.

Keep us posted on your new VQ.

I actually just hit 2200 miles on my new engine last night. Im not at 2400 quite yet, I guess my estimate was wrong. I need to check my oil on a flat surface, unfortunately, I always forget to check it whenever my car is parked on a flat surface.

Glad to hear your oil consumption is improving. I can live with 1/8th per 1000miles. Thats not bad at all

I'm here cause I'm considering getting a G coupe soon to replace my current car. I have a 2000 Maxima with VQ30 and 115K miles with zero oil-burning between changes and I use 0W30 synthetic. I read numerous threads on maxima.org forums for Maximas with VQ35 (2002 and newer) and oil burning so was currious if G had the same prob considering it is the Infiniti line and engine is so slightly different. Unfortunately, it seems that it does although it would be interesting to see what % of all VQ35s is affected. I guess Nissan is keeping that confidential in fear that all owners may come in and complain about this costly problem.

My car was 1/3 quart down after 1000 miles, and after about 2500 miles, 4/10 down.

Another update

4.6K on ODO

This time about 1/3 quart has been consumed over the past 1K mile. Consumption decreased 3 times. Engine should be considered broken in by now, and dealer is claiming this consumptions is normal. I'm not buying it still, so I'm coming back for another test in 1K miles.

Note - over the past 1K mile I have never downshifted to slow down and always rev-matched when downshifting. Getting pretty good at it, actually, and wonder if this has impacted the oil consumption.

Keeping my fingers crossed that things will get even better by the next test.

Good to hear your consumption is decreasing. I too thought the Dealer was yanking my chain saying that's normal, but they were right. Mine got much better after about 8-9K.
Guess it was the high vacuum thing when you go over the 3000 rpm range while the VQ was still trying to loosen up internally.

But unfortunately that's not the case for alot of ppl here with theirs drinking 1 or more quarts per 1000. My worst was 1200 mi/qt, but now only 1/8th qt/1000. Dealer never started the testing b/c I never reached the 1000/qt, but I was close.
I still check every 1000 and sounds like you are too.

I have an '04 6mt with 37k miles and dropped my car off last night for an oil change. I also told them that I sometimes grind shifting into 2nd gear. Never noticed or heard anything unusual, but they called me and said the car is done, and that the noise I head was the engine since I only had 1.5 quarts of oil in there. He then said to pick up the car, come back after 1000 miles, and if I'm still burning oil, they'll replace my engine. I can't believe this stuff. I have no mods and do not abuse the car at all. We'll see what happens.
To people with new engines, how does the warranty work on the new engine? Is it the remainder or original one or new 60k miles?

I think the warranty's good for 48k in the '04's. I don't think they went to a 60k warranty until '05 or '06

The car has 20,000 miles on it why would it start losing oil now. Must of been some bad work done some where at some point in time? I am scared to death to modify this car because of all these horror stories.

bot during "summer event", 06, 6mt, 7Kmi. had oil changed at dealership @ 1K miles, 'cos I bot a 2cd car to baby. had it changed @ 3K, same reason, noticed it dropping, started consumption test...all the way down the hash marks / 3700 interval. I'm not a happy customer no engine "should" burn that much oil. dealership sez hash mark = 1 qt and it's normal, BS. I will witness the drain/fill for the record in a couple days.
I'm done no matter,
FS/FT blk/blk "perfect" condition. (look for my unwrapped mods in marketplace)

From top to bottom of the hash marks IS 1 quart.

So, 1 quart in 3700 miles on a "fairly" new engine. Sounds OK to me. Look for the consumption to possibly go down the more miles you put on the engine. Good luck, and keep checking the oil for now.
