anyway, thats another one
Saw my G the first time since January when my daughter came to visit home for the week. Glad to say it's held up great and she is still happy with it. Got state inspection done and got a new sticker for it. That's about what I'll do to it this time around. Other than wash it since I guess she's been too busy to do it and I want to get any remnants of the salt from the Gulf off of it, just in case.
I've been a busy beaver not necessarily today but in the last week I have done quite a few things to mine.
- installed a used APS 2.5" true dual catback that i picked up. Love the sound at low rpms but still has some higher rpm rasp. One of the tips is a little tweaked to the side. I tried heating up the pipe with a plumbers torch and pushing it but that didn't work. For $300 I can live with it for now. Still fighting with getting the passenger side pipe up off the rear sway bar.
- washed, claybarred entire car then wet sanded some chips and covered up with touch-up paint followed up with compounding and waxing the entire car. I sanded through the poorly repainted hood in a few spots so I found a no name CF hood on FB marketplace for $300 locally so I installed that. It needs to be block sanded and recleared but it works for now.
- picked up a set of 07 tail lights and installed them.
- installed new linkages in the windshield wiper assembly so they will actually go all the way back down when turned off. And not bang against the cowling when running them in the rain. That was a super easy job. Took about 20 minutes.
New hood all about those vented hoods. New tail vs old. New tail lights. No more fisheye reverse lights.
Nothing fancy... Took the chance while I have the car here to change out the driver’s side window switches. Driver’s switch has been broken for a while.
I’ll actually have the car a bit longer since my daughter is taking my wife’s Tahoe to go back to haul a dresser and she’ll be back in a couple of weeks to pick up the G. Need to figure out if there’s anything else it needs.
Finally got the G out to a track, Caanan Motorsports Park in central New Hampshire. Obviously the car handles completely different with Indy 500 on the front and Achilles ATR sport 2 on the back. The back wants to swing out on corner entry instead of the understeer that was present with Indy 500s all around. Not great for autocross or track times, but quite controllable and a lot of fun especially for $130 for two tires.
Talked to a guy with a track only G35 about his setup, car was owned and built by a guy who runs a local tuning shop. Coilovers, sway bars, giant spoiler, 11" wide square setup on race rubber. Stock motor and drivetrain. Does the Caanan course about 11 or 12 seconds faster than my best time with the Achilles.
All in all, a fun day!
my beater with the track G in the background The course

did you happen to get his specs on the 11" square setup?
No, I didn't, I don't even have adjustable front arms on my G so that wasn't on my mind. It didn't look like he was running crazy camber or anything like that, probably within stock specs.
The 11" wheels are off his dad's track Mustang so they're the wrong offset and have big spacers. Stock rear wheel well but the front fenders are really rolled out.
I know I'll see him again, he shows up to all the autocross and trackcross events in the area. I'll be sure to ask him then.
I had the same problem with a set of $400 moonface roll center adjusting bottom ball joints. They washed out and I had to replace them ....man was I pissed. The next set I made sure to buy a few different size boots and test fit until I was sure they fit.
Row2k, were you able to find another set of Moonface RCA's?
can't find matching federal st-1 in the front for my new setup. gonna run 245 40 19 in the front and 275 35 19 in the rear.....
stupid hawaii wont pass my car for inspection cause appear to be lowered. this state need us to take our car for another special inspection if your car is "lowered" or modify suspension.....
