Hello all, Im new to the Forum here.

Is it bad to take off the engine cover? I took mine off and lost the screws and just thought it'd be easier to leave the damn thing off. Is this ok? Any downside to it? I wouldnt imagine so, but thought id ask to be safe

Thanks

^It's just cosmetic. It's absolutely fine to run without one. All the best looking bays on the forum run no cover

How essential is it that I switch out the o ring on the radiator drain plug while flushing coolant? My heater is not working and it's -20C (-5F), so I'd like to switch my coolant to get the heater running asap but I don't know if its worth the risk.

Thanks

if its still elastic and clean when you remove it, it'll be ok.

Two weird things happened today. Please help me solve them

1. The 3rd tail light went out. It doesn't come up at all. Not when braking, not when turning on lights. What could be the reason?

2. The transmission is in P mode. At that time, when i press on brake, i heard clicking noise coming from transmission. It disappeared in reverse and drive mode. What could be wrong?

And an off-topic question. I was to take a left turn at a photo enforced signal. The light was green but i was not so sure of making it so i slowed at the intersection as i hesitated, still the light was green but there was lots of flashes so i decided to complete the left turn. I looked behind, there was nobody. Did i do something wrong? Wil i get a ticket? I was under impression that it will trigger only if it is red which it clearly wasn't.

Thanks

If you want to clean it up, take it off the car, and use Mothers 05824 Pro-Strength Chrome Wheel Cleaner - and a Nylon wire brush and some scrubbing. Makes it look good as new

1. Common issue on first Gens, Diode on the board dies/gets flaky and so that's why it might sometimes work, but in your case its completely dead.

2. 100% normal

3. Redlight camera intersections like to flash for no reason at all, I wouldn't sweat it if the light was green. Though if the light turned red while you were inside the intersection then yea that could be a reason. Though nothing you can do until you do or do not get the ticket in the mail

Thanks Sir for the solutions.

1. Regarding the dead LED, what is alternative solution? I am thinking of getting a factory like spoiler with LED. I have quotes of around $150 and i guess $100 for installation. I am not sure how much it will cost to replace the LED lights but i am guessing at dealership it should be around $500.

2. The clicking noise didn't come till today. I have the car for 1.5 yrs and this is the first time i hear. So i am worried.

3. Till i took the turn, the light was green all the way. When i exit the curve it turned orange. At no point was it red. I thought may be it was flashing because i almost stopped on in the left lane before going through. I am still confused why this happened. I guess my best bet is to wait and watch and hope i don't get a ticket in mail. I am very careful especially when its photo enforced.

When he wrote that, i couldn't help laugh even though it was not helpful. I did wonder a minute after that why he said that. I thought may be he has a manual and he hates automatics.

Fun never hurts anyone Nate.

Unless it's a psycho with his ideas of fun.

Check the wiring to the brake light first, it's commonly known to rub through at some point either in the trunk or where it goes into the trunk lid. Search around, this is a common issue.

Its that or the board itself. If it's completely out, it's probably the wiring. If some of hte LED's work but others are out, it's probably the board.
