As V35 Skyline GT asked, how many miles was on the old engine and do you know how many miles per quart it consumed?

Do you have any pix of the heads? Sludge would be more easily noticed if it had formed there.
Never noticed any pinging or irregular engine noises. 69,882 miles on it when I dropped it off. It was sucking about a quart every 1000 miles. If burned more as I went more miles between changes.

No head pics, I only got the shortblock so they swapped my olds heads.

I left my MREV2, 5/16 spacer and grounding kit on and they installed them to the new engine.

Thanx for the info. No pinging with your oil burner?...you're very lucky. I hear so many with revups and pinging issues. Mine original did bad and my replacement too though not as much, but got it to stop for good :ninja: They bend us over hard here in Cali with only 91 as highest oct.

Today I wanted to just checked the oil level myself from the dipstick to see how the oil is doing.

My car is 2005 6MT Rev-Up Engine.

-The first time I went back after the OC test they said my car was completely fine and told me to drive another 2000km.

-So now I have driven another roughly 1600km (4107km from the oil change they did for the OC test) and checked the dipstick. My dipstick reads just roughly below the halfway mark around 20-21mm below the "H". I follow the TSB and it looks like I am in the "NO GOOD" zone.

Do you guys think my engine is consuming oil pretty bad? Does my engine need replacement?

But I live in Canada, and the TSB that I used (the one from the forum) is from the states, so is it different or the same?

What dealership did you go to?

I have the MREV2 + spacer also and in SoCal and need to start my SECOND OC test for my SECOND replacement. Thanks.

Oh hey congrats. Valvetrain must of been done too.

Make sure they commission your replacement like this if you want the valvetrain to have longevity:

My service rep said they were waiting to remove the valve cover and inspect before deciding if they were doing a short or long block. So I guess there was some issues with the Valvetrain.

And thanks for the heads up. I think the dealership I went to has done more engine replacements than any other dealer in California (and probably the U.S. too). So I hope they know what they are doing.

I'm scheduled for an appointment with my local dealer for Thursday to have the oil level measured. I will insist they measure the dipstick and follow the tsb. Without having measured. I looked at the dipstick and it's halfway down with only about 1,300 miles since I last changed it. Awesome.

Bought my 1st G a few days ago and was browsing on the forum and stumbled on this.. I don't know if I should be worried or not but it seems like I should.. My car was manufactured in 09/2005 and the sticker on the driver side door says the engine is a VQ35(DE), the car has 37k miles.. do I still have warranty? Should I be worried? I was reading a few pages of the forums.. I'm not sure if the 1st owner did his oil changes at an Infiniti dealership...

First off, congratulations! You will see not only is this car very aesthetically pleasing, but it's design is also as practical and reliable a sporty car can be. That being said, powertrain warranty should be 6yrs/60,000mi iirc so you should be good for at least a little bit of time. This problem has affected coupe drivers with the manual transmission more often than not. The tsb is directed toward that trim model probably due to the design of the 7,000rpm redline shortblock (called "revup" by some) that model uses and the sporty nature it's intended driver will use that vehicle for. What I would do first thing before driving it today is to open the hood and check all the fluid levels. Top off the oil carefully to exactly full and keep an eye on it every other tank until about 1,000mi. By then you will know if your motor is consuming a lot of oil if the level has dropped by a third or more.

If oil consumption is a concern, print out the TSB found on this forum and take it to the dealer and make sure they follow it to the "T." You do not need receipts or anything else and don't take no for an answer. You also do not need to pay for an oil change to begin an oil consumption test. In extreme cases people here have threatened to call corporate and also the bbb. At the very least be persistent.

Lastly, the only engine problems I've heard come of this are due to the motor suffering oil starvation because the negligent owner did not check the oil level frequently enough. The worst motors will consume over a quart every 1,000mi. Mine doesn't consume nearly this amount. So you know at the very least all you need to do is keep topping off with dino or synthetic never letting it drop extremely low and the motor will be good. Pray you don't need to have an engine swapped because that's almost as bad as the original problem lol. I'm not worried and I'm quite confident in my particular car but I am still having this test done to completion. Good luck.
