Awesome thanks, do you know how I can diy a park brake bypass. I didn't know it would stop be from using phone functions when driving

Did not order one and shipping time is 6-10 days and I want to put it in this weekend and be done.

All it is is a relay right? But I'm not sure how to wire it.

Thanks

Use google, posting instructions on how to do it is against the board rules.

The only phone functions it would prevent might be things like synching a new phone or something like that. Never seen one that blocked any dialing/calling functions.

OK cool thank you.

I was reading in the manual and it said it stops you from dialing phone numbers or looking at the address book.

Might just throw a switch in since I'll be doing it rarely. Thanks

I'm having a profession install my Kenwood system on my 2003 G35 coupe. I asked him to switch the dual AC zone and gave him Wrathernaut's instructions. He told me that he would call me with a price but never did. Now he is claiming that it takes 1 1/2 hours to soder on the new chip. I'm not an expert but this seems impossible. Is it?

If you have to remove the radio, yeah, but with the radio out, you're looking at a 30-min job if you're really slow. It's soldering two joints.

A few weeks ago I bought all the stuff, low cost Kenwood double din BT and everything advised. read every single post - hundreds, reviewed numerous Wrathernaut posts over and over again. Probably have 15 hours into just reading and investigation. Well, thanks to this awesome site - I'm ready. Tonight I have a table full of stuff - quite a sight. Wires galore and it is chaos ti tge untrained eye. I found that I need a lesson in soldering. I'm half way there. Problem is I have 3 kids that constantly fight and create diversions. I'm half way through soldering all harness wires. I wonder if I should have close end connected them with a crimper. My soldering skills are crazy. I need to get flux I think. Will yank the radio and dash tomorrow after wires finished. It might take me 15 hrs to install - but it will work. Thanks again. If I can figure out how to post a pic ill post the install. DMC

weak AM radio signal

I had a professional install Kenwood DNX570HD and purchased the Metra 40-NI10 AM/FM antenna adapter as Wrathernaut recommended. I always received a strong signal with the Bose system in my 2003 G35 coupe. Now I barely receive an AM signal with lots of static. Any ideas? Thanks!

Antenna amp itself may have gone out, or maybe the installer used crimps and it was a little loose.

I've pored over the wiring diagrams of the antenna amp many times, trying to find something that explains the poor reception when doing aftermarket. I'm not sure if the stock tuner is just extra-sensitive or if the antenna amp requires the power to it to be EXACTLY what the factory radio gave it. Infiniti deciding to use the radio to power the antenna amp, instead of just using the radio to turn it on was a bad choice IMO.

Scotty - did the installer hook up the antenna booster amp in car to the Acc power (ie. lighter power wire or the red that powers the HU? Good luck and let us know if you figure out the reception issue. DMC

When I installed my Dd I had issues at first with my antenna because I stuffed it down low below everything. After going back in and making some changes I straightened it out, and radio is clearer then ever. I crimped 100% of my wires because taking the Stereo in and out overtime will cause failure of the solder.

Failure of the solder... There's harnesses that disconnect, you're not actually de-soldering and re-soldering every time. My radio's been in and out more than just about anybody ever would, since I take it out for how-to's and such fairly regularly.

I guarantee if you take two identical wires, one of them smashed and pinched against the metal edge of a crimp and the other soldered by anyone with any practice and start shaking or pulling at them, that crimped wire is going to fail first. Put some heatshrink tubing over that soldered connection and you've got something that's about as good as a single wire.

Pop quiz. How well connected are these wires?

What about these?

This is how you should do your wiring, unless there is a reason why you can't get a soldering pen to the wires you're working on.

Even if you're using quick disconnects for removal, I recommend getting ones like these, so you can check the connection and heatshrink them yourself... I never trust those plastic collars that hide the connection, break when you crimp through them, or are prone to slide off.

Clarification on some questions...

Hey Wrathernaut,

I found your thread from Google and so I joined the forum :-). I have spent two days reading different threads on this forum on how to accomplish this.

I will be picking up a 2006 G35x with factory nav from my brother. Currently the stereo has a CD stuck; hence this upgrade.

I plan on purchasing these:
Metra 40-N10
Metra Axxess ASWC-1
PAC ROEM-NIS2 (if I decide to keep BOSE) or Metra 70-7550 (aftermarket)
JDM Navigation Aluminum Trim

Couple of questions -
In the original post, as part of the shopping list you listed Scosche universal double din trim ring. This is only needed if the HU I purchase doesn't have the trim to cover the gaps, right?

Regarding the JDM Navigation Aluminum Trim, on this post you recommended checking with Grubbs Infiniti since they have the trim already cut for cars with factory nav. But they are on back order. Any idea where else I can get it (that doesn't need modifications). Or will you be able to help me modify the trim if I get this?

If the trim comes with dual climate control button; is this plug and play? No additional soldering or clipping?

What is the difficulty level in getting the factory nav audio to work with aftermarket HU? Note: my soldering skills are 0

I already saw the question about Bluetooth in FAQ, and I'm sorry but the thread it linked to did not have a very convincing end lol. So please help me clarify (and have closure) - if my HU is Bluetooth enabled, can I still use my factory mic? Will this cause something on the steering controls not to work correctly?

Finally, how hard is it to install an aftermarket amp on this car? Possible to hook all speakers (including added sub) to the amp?

Sorry for all the questions, but I was hoping to possibly clear this in one shot. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I spent a good two weeks reading up before I did mine. Didn't want that research to go to waste, that's why I put this together in the first place. You should be good to go with just blindly following the first post, but if you want to know the reasons why, there's a few thousand posts you can read, but most people just get confused if they try.

Yes. Some radios come with a trim ring, some don't. Best way to find out if yours does is to look for unboxing videos on youtube, or they may also be shown in the pictures that sonicelectronix.com posts.

Grubbs is the only place that appears to have been able to get the navigation trim from Nissan. I tried a LOT of specialty JDM suppliers, my brother who was stationed in Japan and other leads when I put the list together. It's possible there's another source since then, but besides the occasional out-of-stock, there's been no reason to look elsewhere, when nobody's beat their price, customer service and support of this board.

If they can't get the part in in the time you're looking at, I can modify one for you. I can't guarantee perfection, but I am pretty good at it after doing it for several others now.

Yes. No modifications required if it comes with the button.

With skills, fairly uncomplicated, but as far as I know, nobody's actually tried to build it. The factory nav isn't really worth keeping, especially with smartphone-based navigation being so prevalent.

You can use the factory mic if you splice the wires, but it's poor quality, so I wouldn't. If you have factory bluetooth, the steering wheel controls go through it first, so you need to bypass it at the bluetooth adapter in the trunk if you want the steering wheel controls to work with your new radio.

No more difficult than any other car. Run a new power wire and ground, extend the factory audio wires and amp turn-on wire to the new amp and you're done.

The stock speakers lack the capabilities of the new HU... I want speakers with some good lows. No room for a sub.
