foul smell

I own a 2003 G35 sedan and for the last 2 weeks when we turn the AC on it smells like a dead animal. It is so bad I carry an air freshner in the car and hold it in front of the vent. My husband changed the oil today and the cabin air filter. He doesn't see how anything, we were thinking a chipmunk, could get up in the car. Does anyone have any suggestions? Please help.

Check the battery maybe?
If it smells like rotten egg/sulphury, might be a place to look. I had the battery overflow a few months back and this is what it was. In these cars the battery sits in front of the vent for the aircon.

sounds like mold/mildew has grown in your vents. Happened a lot with the older Maximas and I think if you turned the heater on full blast and sprayed some lysol into the intake vent right under the windshield wipers it'll help kill the mold and get rid of the smell. Let it run for a few minutes on max heat with the windows down.

There have been others with the problem of mice, etc getting in so it is possible. Hope you can locate the source quickly regardless.

I know it is your first post...but the search function would have easily answered your question. All you would have had to enter was keywords applying to your topic.

That being said...I also understand just wanting to get information asap, so below are links pertaining exactly to your question. But for the future...try to make a genuine effort to find it on your own. This is a major pet-peeve for most senior posters (not to say that I am one myself... ).

Hope you figure out the issue!

haha ok ok, I wrote that just as I was leaving work today. Real advice:

I know a friend who tried the Lysol method mentioned above. This solved the damp mildew smell, but afterwards his car had this obnoxious Lysol smell. I've personally tried it with fabreeze in my old Accord and felt that it worked better for me.

When was the last time you changed the in cabin air filter? NOt saying that's the problem but it may help. You should change it every year.
